Default Don't let men fix-it-themselves.

They always mess it up, just call the professionals.

Backstory:
The cable in the house here is extended (like 100 channels) cable, not just basic 20-30 channel cable.

For the longest time since we upgraded to the lot of channels version some of the higher channels are blurry. We've just lived with it since noone watches those channels anyway. But we bought a new big screen TV for the living room, so they decide to use the chance to fix the cable.

We have a friend that used to be a cable guy so he looked under the house, and found the problem. There was a Filter on cable that is supposed to keep basic cable users from "Stealing" the extended channels - and noone ever removed it when we upgraded so the new channels that come with extended are filtered and blurry. He took it off. Fine.

That would be the end of the story right? NO. Of course Mr. Fix-It-All had to take the opportunity to run new cabling to the house (since it it was old) and replace the splitters.

So guess what the end result is? We basically HAVE NO CABLE now because its so cloudy on every channel and the Cable Company is coming out tommorow to fix what he screwed up.

----------

This isn't the only time stuff like this happens.. Its NEVER a good idea to do anything yourself, especially middle aged men that think they know mechanics and carpentry.

OMFG! You have no cable TV!

Drop the Twinkies and go outside, read a book.

You said it yourself, he used to be a cable guy, an EX profetional.

What would you rather have ? Women playing around with electronics? (That was a Joke. Laugh.)

No that guy left after changing the Filter >_>

Twinkies are HORRIBLE (unless they are frozen, then they are ok).

Books are for losers. The Internet replaced them.

Lol, Right try Reading War and Peace, The Devine Comedy, Or any book on the Internet without having your eyes burned out or Suffering from a headache.

The fact is I enjoy reading books, makes me cultured. You can go back to the internet, but I'd be damned if you use it for mainly reading books.

And if you mean "Because I can get all my information from the internet instead of books", Sure, i'd prefer to sue the internet instead of a dusty old Encyclopidia.

But thats it, otherwise the internet does not replace books.

I read a good portion of Inferno on the internet no problem.

Anyway, I consider most books complete crap (Most Movies also), so yes I was refering to Encyclopedia type reading,

What do books have to do with someone's obvious lack of any kind of skill in running cable. Coaxial cable is increadibly easy to run, much easier than normal house wiring.

You would have been fine with the old cables unless they were damaged. The splitters are not hard to change and then removing that filter takes less than a min.

Here is a nifty trick I figured out:

if your Internet Provider also provides TV to others (but not to you) here is what you do:

Split / Root the Coaxial cable and Plug it directly into the back of your TV.

Ta-Da, All basic Channels plus some you might have With a basic Cable Subscription.

Best part is that it is un-detectable, unless you keep it set up if the maintence guy ever shows up and you forgot to take it off.

Legally, Before you said it I could have gotten off scot free.

But the way it is set up here is as follows:

The modem is free, we are paying for the signal we are receiving.

And seeing as how the TV is piggy backing on our Internet connection, and we are paying for the signal, then its all good.

Eh normally if you're running cable net, you're usually going to have at least basic cable.

I'm a man, and I agree not to let amateurs try to fix something themselves. It usually ends up being worse than when it started.

Either know what the heck you're doing or call a professional. 1-800 is there for a reason.
